"Two Kinds" Plot Charts
Below is a downloadable document which includes three student samples of plot charts created for Amy Tan's "Two Kinds," a vignette taken from her novel The Joy Luck Club. Students completed plot charts for this story to review and apply elements of a short story and to further understand the conflict seen within it.

Dickinson Booklet Projects (English 9/SDAIE 1)
To assess student understanding of the poem and application of figurative language terms learned throughout the poetry unit, students placed in groups of three or four to create a booklet retelling Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death." Each student had one of the following roles: Summarizer (in charge of "translating" each line and developing a two-sentence summary of each stanza), Vocabulary Master (in charge of defining the following words: haste, leisure, civility, quivering, gossamer, tulle, eternity), or Artist (in charge of illustrating the events of each stanza). While the majority of groups used copy paper, construction paper, crayons, colored pencils, and other manual materials, the samples featured below were taken from a period that used MacBook Air laptops pre-loaded with software such as Pages, Keynote, and ComicLife. The first two were created using ComicLife, while the last one was created using Keynote (the Apple equivalent of Microsoft PowerPoint).
